Training program – Pre WC Champs - Gauteng region

Due to popular demand the Gauteng 505 sailors are holding several training sessions in preparation for the WC champs in Saldahna on 10-13 April 2009. The training sessions will be held regularly on a Saturday afternoon at PSC every two weeks starting next weekend i.e. 14th Feb 2009. All boats must be on the water by 13h00 sharp.
In order to minimise on travelling costs and enable regular training to take place the venue for the training will be PSC, who have kindly offered us the use of their facilities and a training motorboat. It is intended to have at least one session at Sterkfontein Dam and the date of this session will be finalised in consultation with all participants, but is provisionally set for 28-29th March 2009.

The training will take the form of basic boat handling training including several exercise drills for typical manoeuvres (tack, roll tack, gybe, roll gybe, downwind gybe, wire to wire gybe); technique exercises (boat trim, sail trim) and boat setup sessions (Mast rake, tension, kicker, ram, cunningham, outhaul, jib fairlead position, traveller, etc.)

All we need is for you to bring yourself, crew and your boat, your positive attitude and be willing to participate fully in the sessions including giving up some of your time to help run some of the sessions.

The provisional program is as follows:

Date Start time Session Focus Location
14 Feb 13h00 1 Boat setup PSC
28 Feb 13h00 2 Technique PSC
14 Mar 13h00 3 Manoeuvres PSC
28-29 Mar08h00 4 Manoeuvres/Boat speed Sterkfontein
4-5 Mar 13h00 5 Summary/Packing PSC

Anyone is welcome to join us for these training sessions, if you have something to contribute, please join us. The aim is to improve our racing by bringing everyone up to speed on the basic techniques, so that they will race faster and put some real pressure on the boat in front of you. If you have hashed a critical gybe and seen the competition disappear towards the next mark and you are eager to improve your sailing, even if you are not intending to go down to Saldahna you are welcome.

By the way, what's happening in Natal and the Cape?
