1. Remember the Freestate Champs/BP trophy this weekend the 8th-9th May 2010 at Aeolians Club, Vaal Dam together with the Oppies and Dabbies. The NOR is attached for your info. Please enter as soon as possible. Start is not before 10h00 on Saturday morning. Camping is available. This is the last preparation regatta for the boats leaving for the Worlds in Denmark and the guys are sure to be out there pushing the limits. If you don't yet have a crew or skipper start phoning around now and organise your ride.

2. 7 boats took part in the WC Champs at Saldanha over the previous long weekend, three of them from Gauteng. There were more than 250 boats in total taking part and organisation was as slick as ever. We had good wind and the competition was tough with boats from three provinces in the mix. The racing was dominated by Rudolph and Ferdinand Holm who won convincingly from the Funke brothers who had a few visits from Mr Murphy, you know the guy who breaks things. The full race report is on the website. Go and have a look at what you missed. This was the last offshore regatta on our calendar before the end of the season, but the Cape Dinghy points series is still on later in the season and the Cape guys are keen for competition from up country if you are keen to join them.

3. The 2010 Worlds teams are making their last preparations for the 505 Worlds in Denmark in July-August. The shipping has been finalised and boats will be loaded towards the end of May. The BP trophy this weekend will be their last regatta before packing their boats. Sponsorship for shipping has been procured and a lot of work has gone into making arrnagements for this campaign. The presentation proposing SOUTH AFRICA for the 505 Worlds in 2013, to the AGM in Denmark still needs to be finalised using the video and photo footage taken at the Duffin Trophy in PE. This promotional video will be on sale to all class members once it is completed.

4. Several people have committed to importing chartered Freemantle boats and some second hand Rondars in the container returning from Denmark. We are very excited about these new additions to the South African fleet and we have attached a photo so you can drool. These boats will be packed into the container after the Worlds and should be back in the country by the end of September, just in time for the new season. This should kick start the fleets all over the country. You are encouraged to find a crew/skipper, scratch around for any unused 505's standing around and get them on the water so we can give these new boat owners some decent competition. Remember what Lance Armstrong said "Its not about the bike/boat". There are plenty of boats out there which will enable you to get on the water and improve your sailing in time for the proposed worlds in 2013 in PE South Africa.

See you on the water this weekend!
