International

Another bad referee decision? Well that's sailing.
We also lost the bid for the 2013(?) worlds - Barbados beat us. Who wants to go sailing at a tropical island anyway.

Results are.......

Ferdinand (RSA8520) Email from Worlds

2 August,

DISASTER.

The Worlds regatta started on Friday in a strong wind. We sailed the first race and completed it. On the first upwind leg of the second race, we were unfortunately involved in a collision with another boat.

Geelslang has been damaged to such an extent that we had to retire from the race and be towed back to shore. On further inspection it became evident that the extent of the damage is such that she will not be able to sail the rest of the regatta.

Can you give me a personal perspective for the web, with notes on:
1. Funkes not racing race 1: "Funkes tore their new spinnaker in half during race one, so rather than lose two races they came back to the harbor to fetch the old spinnaker. In itself it does not sound like much but the Charlie course is about 4 nautical miles out so it takes about an hour in 28 knots of wind to get back."

Pre Worlds Report By Ferdinand

International

29 July,

The Pre Worlds ended yesterday with some interesting changes in the final results. The Funke Brothers moved up to position number 14 (they managed to get a 7th position in race 6). Rudolph and I moved up to 17. Plattner/Alerie moved up to 20. Klaas/Von Grünewaldt to 21 (they managed an excellent 5th position in race 5). Holm/Buhrmann moved up to 28th and the Ham father/son team ended in position 34 (Alexander Ham is the helmsman, he is only 16 years old)!
