9 Hour race Midmar - 25 February 2012
The 9 hour race is on and it is happening at HMYC on 25 February 2012. 4 505 teams have expressed interest and it promises to be a great endurance race.
505 BP Trophy 2011/12
Former 505 champion, Ewald Sternagel made his long awaited return to the 505 class. He did however describe the experience it as being similar to walking on an iced lake or a bar of soap. This just proves the challenge that comes along with 505 sailing and the skill required to become a competitive team.
BP Trophy - NOR available
The NOR for the 505 BP Trophy regatta to be held at Aeolians on the 24-25th September is available. You should have received it via email if your details are up to date on the 505 Email database. If not the document is on the website under Regatta documents.
We are aiming for a good turnout at this event and judging by the wind over the last few weekends there should be excellent sailing conditions.
Aeolians are hosting both the 505's and the Finns and are providing braai packs for Saturday Nights braai included in the entry fee. Camping is available.
Please join in, especially if you have a new boat and come and see how much fun sailing a 505 really is. There will be plenty of experienced people around, willing to share their stories, and give you a few "go fast" tips.
The start is early on Saturday (10h30) so make sure you get there early and be rigged on time.
Brian is our race officer, so be ready to sail until the sun goes down!
See you there!!
505 Highveld Champs is ON this weekend!!!
Hi All rusty 505 sailors,
Good news!!! The Commodore of PSC has let me know that the 505 Highveld Champs is ON this weekend, 27th-28th August. The strike should be over by Thursday night.
We have 10 boats confirmed for this weekends regatta, with a number of new members attending for the first time. Not bad for the first regatta of the new season!
Registration starts at 09h00 sharp with the first race scheduled not before 10h30. Entry for the 505 is R150 per boat. There will be entry forms and membership forms at the entry desk, we ask that all sailors update their membership details and renew their subscriptions so we can involve you in the new season. All sailors are to be class members. Those who took part in Nationals should already be up to date with their membership.
Weather forecast according to Robert is going to be light winds and quite hot on Saturday with a nice 10 knots on Sunday. The water is probably freezing, but then that is extra motivation NOT to go for a swim!
The 505's are catering for Saturday lunch, Lasagne, salad and roll mmmm.... There's a braai on Saturday evening, and the Finns are doing Sunday lunch.
But there's more....!
505 Jackets available - Place your order
The 505 Jackets shown at the Nationals are about to be ordered. The jackets are available for R250 each, including embroidered RSA flag on the right breast, and 505 logo on the left breast. Have a look at the photos of the sample jacket in the gallery.

Remember to ensure your boat has adequate sealed bouyancy, that you wear your lifejackets at all times and you carry a whistle with you while racing for communication purposes. This is to ensure we comply with the requirements of the "closed event" status
Although not a requirement I suggest you carry a 10m tow rope in your boat (If you don't want your mainsheet used for this purpose).
