3. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted.
4. President’s report:
Boat building – Local developments will not be feasible due to the condition of the moulds. The local moulds will need to be disposed of and destroyed to avoid a repeated investigation of these moulds again in the future. Internationally, P Funke made contact with the Americans and there is a chance that the Waterat moulds could come to SA and boats built locally under license from Larry Tuttle. There is also a chance that the Fremantle moulds could come to SA. These developments are under discussion.
Worlds: Peter made a proposal at the 2009 worlds in San Francisco, that South Africa will put in a bid to host the 505 worlds in 2013 in PE. There was a second proposal for Barbados for 2013 and detailed presentations were called for at the 2010 AGM in Denmark.
Multi class nationals – The 505 was elected the boat of choice for the SAS multi class nationals. These will take place in 2010.
A proposal was made to vote on the destruction of the existing moulds proposed by A Holm and seconded by P Willcox: All present were for the destruction and no one against it.
5. Treasurer’s Report: The SA 505 class currently has 38 senior and 6 junior members. In 2008/09 it generated a profit of R25918.87 and incurred expenses of R25725.47 thereby making a profit of 193.40. The class currently owns assets worth R58664 and does not have any liabilities.
The issue of the class’s masts was discussed in detail and it was requested that the class’s masts will be sold at a cheaper rate providing the purchaser trades in his old mast (in good sailable condition and not broken or spliced). Valuation of the trade in mast was to be undertaken by the Exco. The new masts may then be sold at a lower price taking into account the price of the trade in mast. The masts that have been traded in can be held in stock and resold at events in the event of breakages. Idea proposed by Ferdinand. Vote proposed by Peter and seconded by Albrecht. 12 voted in favour of it and 2 against it.
6. Communication’s officers report – Warwick gave an update on the website and its progress. The site has been opened to all except that only members can submit articles that they would like to publish. These would be subject to editorial review before being published.Warwick also discussed the ranking system of which in the 2008/09 seasons a total of 68 people took part, 4 ladies and 64 men. It seems to be working well but it was requested that the KZN and WC add some more events so that they can increase their events counting towards the ranking.
7. Voting of the Exco – The existing Exco of the class was voted in unanimously. Peter Funke – President, Mark Biagio – IT coordination officer and SAS rep , Thomas Funke – Secretary, Warwick Ham – Communication’s officer, Kobus Holtzhausen – Treasurer and Robert v Gruenewaldt – International liaison. Alan Haylett although not present has also made himself available to assist with training.
8. Voting of Class measurers – The members of the class saw a need to vote in additional class measurers as Albrecht made it known he wanted to stand down. They can only be appointed by SAS but are recommended by the class. Grant Ballentyne was proposed by Paul Willcox and seconded by Peter Funke for the Western Cape and Kyle Klaas and Eddie Foster were proposed as measurers for the Northvaal region. All were voted in by the meeting. Albrecht Holm has agreed to help the new measurers with training before he vacates his post.
9. 2010 Worlds- 7 boats have declared their willingness to participate in Denmark. It was proposed by Warwick that a commitment be made by the end of November. All possible participants were happy with this.
10. The jib that was won by Nick Pratt at the year end dinner was handed over to Paul Willcox who would give it to Nick.
11. The meeting was adjourned at 21h00 on the 26th of September.
