We had a good start but unfortunately were rolled by another boat to windward. We were then forced
to tack up and duck a whole lot of boats.
The wind was around 20knots to start off and then increased to around 25 knots towards the end of the day. Our maximum speed according to our GPS
was 16 knots! On the final run to the finish a gust hit us, the rudder stalled and we capsized. We quickly had the boat up and going again and only lost five positions. Another problem at the beginning of the race was
that the jib sheet outer sheath pulled of. First the main then the jib...
It was an extremely hard race with tough current conditions. We will see
how we do again tomorrow.
We only had one race as it was the AGM this morning. They mentioned the 2013 proposal for the Worlds in PE. I got up and gave them some info about the place eg. accommodation, safety, transport, launching, wind, temp. etc.
Every one that I have spoken to is keen on the idea and I think we just need to put a professional proposal together for next year.
The Worlds in 2011 will be held in Australia, Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier reef area. I think that will be a really nice venue to take family to and race Worlds at the same time. The dates are apparently around middle to end of March, which is not so grand for us.
I am listening to some of the "skinner" stories here in the committee room and before the race on the way out to the race course the committee boat half way ran over Howie Hamlin. This damaged his pole and bent his mast.
There are apparently big problems at present, he also then influenced the gate boat some how at the start. They are busy discussing it at the moment if they should disqualify him on it or not.
I don't think he can ask for redress on the incident before the race as it was outside the race as is.
More tomorrow.

Peter Funke
