18 - 19 Oct Boskop Open (Potch). On account of delivering juniors some of us will be there and we should really make a concerted effort to get a number of 505's on the water.
Date TBA (usually early/ mid Oct) - Pennant Nine YC - 6 hour endurance. Racing against keelboats, multihulls etc on a handicap system makes this a fun and out-of-the-ordinary event.
In addition to that what has happened to the VLC Cup and Benoni Open?

Hans thanks for your submission Lets open this up for discussion and gauge the reaction before changing this years calendar. While drawing up the 2008-2009 calendar the Exco had to weigh up the number of events we have in a season against the attendance we have had in the past. Other aspects which influenced the decision were things like school and university exam times as well as the public holidays. We also had to consider the ranking system and give people in other provinces a fair chance to build up ranking points without having to travel to Gauteng for every regatta. Our aim is to build the class nationally in numbers as well as quality by encouraging sailing firstly at all 505 events (especially the Nationals), and secondly at any other SAS events. I agree with you that Boskop is a good regatta and since I am also taking juniors there I will probably be sailing the 5 there as well. Who else is going to join us? The endurance event at Pennant Nine YC is normally quite well attended by the 505's so as soon as we have the dates, people can start making plans to get there. VLC cup was on our calendar in the past but no one from VLC has attended for the past two years. The event remains as an open event on the NSA calendar so everyone is free to attend. The Benoni open was not traditionally a 505 event, the dam is very small and in areas quite shallow, so not suited to anyone with high aspect boards and rudders. Again this is an open event on the NSA calendar and everyone is free to attend. For all of these and any other events we will assess the number of boats attending and depending on the interest we have this year we could consider adding these events to the calendar for next year. Please give your comments, or even better "vote with your boat" and sail the events you want to see on the calendar. |
