We look forward to Thomas's race report later this week.
The South African 505 Association would like to thank Frank Lenz and his team at VCA for a great regatta. The husband and wife team of Norman and Judith Edwards ran a very well organised bridge and managed a total of 8 races in very trying conditions. In race 6 the last beat turned into a run, due to a 180 degree wind switch, with the last run to the leeward mark turning first into a beat, then later a fetch, with small wind patches all over the place, a real lottery. The two rescue boats manned by Frank and Dave had their hands full, moving marks around as the wind just couldn't decide which direction to come from. When the wind finally came up on Monday afternoon, the marks were hurriedly moved yet again, and in spite of time pressure the course turned out to be a nice long beat with a wing mark set far enough out to make the reaches really challenging even for the heavier crew combinations. Those last two races made up for Sunday’s leisurely cruise.
Those of you who missed the event must make a point of attending next year’s event at this excellent venue. VCA have offered full catering, big braai fires in the evenings and well manicured club facilities to the 505's and their families for next years event. We have experienced the smooth race organisation and we appreciate the time taken to give us a good regatta. We don’t mind sailing all the way out into the bay to get to the big wind, and when it comes in from the NW it is BIG!
A big thank you to VCA from all the 505’s is in order.
