The regatta was well organised with good all round conditions and very tight racing. Dave Hudson and Son in law David Rae (back from his Shosholosa campaign) tried out the 505 and realised that it is rather difficult to start winning straight away. Tough competition throughout the fleet saw the first 5 positions change regularly with every one of the top 4 boats leading the event at a stage. Rudolph and Dirk performed very well in the heavy wind, outclassing the field in both races on Saturday while Dave and David and Peter and Thomas generally did better in the light to medium winds. Kobus and Henko sailed extremely well to secure a 5th place overall, just behind Paul Willcox and Robbie van Rooyen. The Ballentyne family had an ongoing battle throughout the event with Grant, the father, having the final say in claiming 6th place just ahead of Sean on his newly acquired Mrs Applebee. The other two Holm boats, with altered crew, Warwick sailing with Tilja and Pierre sailing with Albrecht fought it out for the final two positions.
All in all it was a great event with close racing throughout the fleet. The 505 Class Association would like to thank all of the crews for attending the event as well as ZVYC for doing a tremendous job in hosting it.
