The 505 Exco want to encourage as many boats as possibe to attend this event as it counts heavily towards your ranking for the season. We also see many dusty boats standing around crying to be sailed. The Exco has had to take the tough decision to reschedule the event due to the extreme delay in the return of the container from the recent Worlds in Denmark.
Fortunately the NSA provincials could be moved from the 24-26th September to the 13-14th November which was originally the date for the Duffin trophy. The 2010 Duffin Trophy was sailed at ABYC, PE as a promotional regatta in preparation for our bid to hold the 2013 505 Worlds in PE.
The youth provincials (Oppies, Dabbies & Lasers) will still be held at Aeolians over the long weekend 24-26th September at Aeolians, and any 505's wishing to practice on that weekend at Aeolians are welcome to join in the fun at Aeolians over the long weekend.
The more you practice, the better you get!
You also have the opportunity to advertise the 505 class to prospective new skippers and crew, fresh out of the Dabbie fleet, looking for a bigger boat to progress to.
Hopefully we can convince the owners of the new boats being imported from Denmark to get them on the water at Aeolians and give them the first taste of sweet South African water and show us how they go!
Lets try and get a large turnout for this event.
This is your chance to get the latest info and tips on the latest technology, from those who attended the 2010 worlds in Denmark, see the videos and photos and find out just how fast a 505 can be sailed. There are not many South African boats who can finish a race in the top 10 at an International World Championship in such a competitive fleet.
This is your chance to find out what's needed to get to that level. If you don't ask you will never know!
