Sponsorship:
The 505 class is privileged to have a number of generous sponsors who are supporting our National championships this year. Risk Café have sponsored funds which pay for prizes as well as bridge and rescue accommodation, BP are sponsoring all the fuel for the bridge and rescue boats for the weekend. Both Hyde sails and Canon have sponsored lucky draw prizes, a new Jib from Hyde Sails and a water proof video camera from Canon. The lucky draw for these special prizes will take place after the AGM on Saturday night at Caterpillar and Catfish, everyone there has an equal chance of winning. If you are not there in person you are not eligible for the lucky draw. The 505 Class association is sponsoring half of the costs for Saturday evening dinner at Caterpillar and Catfish so dinner only costs you R 50 each. Non class members are also welcome at R 100 per person.
Accommodation:
Chalets may still be available, phone Sterkfontein (058 622 3520) directly for any cancellations. There are plenty of powered and unpowered camping sites still available. We still have 4 beds available in the 8 bed chalet together with the bridge and rescue crews
Transport:
Several licensed double trailers are available for Nationals, ask Albrecht Holm 082 821 6390, Peter Funke 072 245 0154 and Warwick Ham 082 882 6414 if you need a lift. I think Rudolph 0722088012 also has an old trailer lying around somewhere, but I am not sure if it is in a roadworthy condition.
Measurement:
Pre measurement for all the Gauteng boats is on the 13th March at 12h00 at PSC. Measurement is compulsory for all boats and sails being used in the nationals, and we encourage all Gauteng boats to pre measure on this weekend so there is enough time to measure and weigh the KZN and Cape boats at Sterkfontein. Measurement will be limited to selected items at the discretion of the class measurers, but all boats will be weighed and shall comply with the class rules.
Skippers available:
We have two top Dabbie sailors (Ryan Hadley and James Mc Wha) who are each wanting to skipper a boat during the 2010 505 nationals, with a view to sailing the PE event and maybe even the WC Champs in April. If you have a competitive boat and are looking for a very competent skipper to kick start your Nationals campaign here is a golden opportunity. Please get in touch with Warwick 082 882 6414 to arrange a skipper before the 5th March 2010.
Duffin Trophy - PE
Everything is lining up nicely for the PE event on the Easter weekend. Accommodation at Pine lodge is filling up fast but there are still chalets available. Phone Pine Lodge 041 583 4004 for a booking.
Breakfast and dinner is available in the clubhouse and lunch packs can be ordered the day before.
We have a cameraman who will be taking close up footage of the racing from a rescue RIB on the water and the helicopter will be taking some footage of the racing from the air on Saturday.
Entry fee is R 150 per boat. This promises to be a great offshore event, please support your class and help make it an event to be talked about.
Scott Quarmby who normally crews for Mark Biagio, is looking for a hotshot skipper for the PE event. He will be sailing in Coastal Flyer. If you can keep up the pace get hold of Scott (scotty3366@gmail.com) and book your place. Lifts to PE can be arranged if necessary.
Worlds 2010:
The final cut off date for container deposits for the 2010 505 Worlds in Aarhus Denmark passed on the 28th Feb 2010. There are 4 boats which have paid their deposits and will be shipping their boats to Denmark late in May. Sponsorship negotiations are at an advanced stage and only those who had committed by the cut off date will benefit from the sponsorship. There are still a number of spaces open in the container and anyone still interested may ship their boat in the container but will not enjoy the benefits of the sponsorship. (i.e. they will have to pay the pro rata fees applicable) There are a number of people who have expressed interest in importing boats from Europe in the container which will be returning from Denmark. The total shipping costs will be shared equally between the number of boats in the container on the return trip, however each party importing a boat will be responsible for their own importation documentation and import costs including all duties payable. This information must be lodged with the 505 Exco before the container is packed in order that the correct export and re-import documentation can be submitted when the container is packed. This will hopefully prevent a re-occurrence of the situation after Warnemünde when the container was impounded due to incorrect inventory items discovered during the customs inspection.
Do you have any comments/suggestions? Where and when would you like to sail? Please forward any correspondence to members of the Exco or to rsa505@rsa505.org.za
